ABOUT ELECTRICO

Singapore’s most stylish and prevalent band, Electrico, plays captivating, guitar-based rock n roll. Now a four-piece band comprising of David Tan (vocals, guitar), Desmond Goh (bass) and William Lim, Jr (drums, backing vocals) and Amanda Ling (keyboards), Electrico released their debut album “So Much More Inside” in August 2004 under Universal Music in Singapore, Australia, Thailand and Indonesia. The album achieved cult success following the release of their first single, “I Want You” and shot to the No 1 spot on local radio.

The band spent the next few years touring and offering Singapore, Thailand and Australia a taste of their dynamic live performances. Often sharing the stage with renown international acts like The Bravery, Beastie Boys, Rivermaya and many more, it is no wonder that Electrico has been consistently nominated and won countless media accolades.

Electrico released their second album “Hip City” in June 2006 which was an indication of their development as artistes, and had a grittier, edgier and more urgent sound to it. “Hip City” proved to be a popular hit, staying on HMV Singapore’s Top 10 sales chart for weeks. The first single, synth-rock “Love In New Wave” was remixed by resident Zouk DJ Aldrin Quek and dance producer Akien, and also became a hit dance anthem advocated by British DJ Pete Tong.

In December 2006, Electrico was invited and performed at the main stage in Malaysia’s “Rock The World VII” music festival. Shortly after, in March 2007, Electrico was invited to the South By Southwest (SXSW) music festival and performed several shows in California and Texas. In August 2007, “Love In New Wave” achieved the No 1 spot on Nu107fm, a popular Philippines radio station. Electrico’s long anticipated 3rd album, “We Satellites” is now available at all good record stores.

ABOUT MELVYN LIM

Melvyn is a Senior Art Director and winner of the coveted Ogilvy Giant Award at Ogilvy & Mather Singapore. His wide-ranging projects include interactive projects for Levi's®, BP Castrol and digital mobile works for Nokia, all of which won him accolades and awards at local and international award shows. He defines Levi's® Copper Jeans website as one of his capstones.

Once, working under the moniker 2manydesigners, he produced pro-bono collaborative works with Nike, Woods & Woods, U.N.K.L.E. and various music bands, to name a few.

SINFULLY LOMO

Gluttony by Brendon P Pride by David Chan Envy by Electrico Anger by Emma Yong

Lust by Royston Tan Greed by Woods&Woods Sloth by Theseus Chan

Lomography encourages pride in spontaneous pictures, creates envy and greed in others for your luscious Lomo camera(s). The sexy curves of the camera incite lust. Anger sets in when that hunger for shooting is not satisfied and Lomography’s infamous “Don’t Think, Just Shoot” mantra challenges sloth. Gluttony is piqued with the rich and saturated pictures.

Seven artists, including “Dim Sum Dolly” Emma Yong, local fashion label Woods & Woods, independent filmmaker Royston Tan, WORK’s creative director Theseus Chan, Zouk’s resident DJ Brendon P, pop artist and painter David Chan and local indie rock band Electrico were invited to interpret the 7 Deadly Sins with a Colorsplash camera in the first act of this event. The results were pictures saturated in sin and colours. In the second act, Lomographers exhibited their sinful pictures at Objectifs. This Lomo extravaganza culminated in a night of Sin and colours in Very Sinful Night at Velvet Underground in Zouk in Jul 2007, where pictures by the seven artists were exhibited on illuminated standing boxes. Heineken provided thirst quenchers with complimentary beer.

WHAT THE ___ IS LOMO?

“What The ____ Is Lomo?” celebrates our passion for capturing the everyday.

In this art installation, we reconstructed the world as we know it with our basic building blocks – Lomo photographic prints. We recreated a Lomo living space, tastefully furnished with designer furniture, electronic gadgets and our very own art collection showcasing Lomo gums with pictures by local Lomographers.

This event was held in celebration of the launch of Objectifs as the new Lomo Embassy in Oct 2004.

ABOUT LOMOGRAPHY

In the early 1990s, a couple of students chanced upon the LC-A in an old camera shop in Vienna. Impressed by its sharp glass lends, extreme light sensitivity and robust casing, they started shooting as many pictures as possible in the most impossible of situations and from the most unusual positions. The result was a flood of colourful, crazy, off-the-wall, and extraordinary snapshots.
What started out spontaneously as an artistic approach to photography in Vienna’s rich underground scene developed into a far-reaching, international socio-cultural movement. The Lomographic Society develops (and sometimes discovers) cameras that serve as alternatives to the “high tech” and “high definition” cameras.

The Lomographic Embassy Singapore is the cultural representative of the Lomographische AG (Lomographic Society International) and, at the same time, the first local service point for people who want to learn more about Lomography. We aim to build up and support an active Lomography community in Singapore and the region.
