Tam, a diligent wedding venue staffer, discovers her husband’s affair on live TV. Rather than confronting him, she enlists a powerful spell master to win back his love. Tam’s daughter, Ha, pours her frustration into vivid fantasies of a brighter future abroad. Meanwhile, a mysterious House Spirit, visible only to the women, lurks beneath their cracked, leaky ceiling.

About Dương Diệu Linh

Dương Diệu Linh is a Vietnamese filmmaker who takes special interest in the unconventional depiction of sad, angsty and naggy middle-aged women. Her series of shorts, which seamlessly blend hyper-realistic, slice-of-life subject matters with magical realism elements deeply rooted in Southeast Asian mythology and superstitions, have been competing and winning awards at prestigious film festivals around the world.

Her debut feature, DON’T CRY, BUTTERFLY, premiered at Venice Critics’ Week (Settimana Internazionale della Critica) where it won the Grand Prize and Most Innovative Film. Linh previously attended Berlinale Talents in 2020, Asian Film Academy in 2016, Locarno Summer Academy and Bucheon Fantastic Film School in 2015.
